This is the second book I have read on extrasolar planets and I was surprised to realise soon after I started that this one is written by someone who really knows his stuff. It follows a historical approach and carefully distinguishes between the two main methods of extrasolar planetary detection, explaining which types are used by which instruments. The hardware used is described. It also describes each proposal made for further work and whether that proposal finally got funded - there are a long list of them. Overall it comes to the conclusion that surprisingly our solar system is far from typical. Unfortunately the book has to end wich many question masrks over future discoveries but that is the nature of the science - it is currently very much a work in progress
